Infertility

Infertility will be on anyone’s mind who has been trying to get pregnant over a period of time but has had no success.  Infertility actually refers to a person’s  inability to get pregnant after over a period of a year trying for a baby. Infertility can be a very sensitive issue to some and can even contribute to some other social stigmas which are unhealthy. In some situations where infertility is in one of the partner, it can cause some strain in a relationship or marriage.

In general infertility can be derived from either a male or female.  It can occur in both genders. There have been rumours and myths circulating around mentioning that infertility is usually a female or the women’s problem which is not true!  Infertility can happen both in men and women.

Before coming to a conclusion that you may be infertile, you must first know what are the factors of infertility. And as I have mentioned above, you can only arrive to this conclusion of infertility if you have been actively trying to have a baby for at least over one year. And by actively trying means that you and your partner have been busy in the baby making process every other month or even week or day!  In addition, the active efforts made includes having sex on the best times of getting pregnant that is during ovulation. Only after these have been done on your part and over a year and you have not gotten pregnant yet then only at that point can you rule in the possibility of infertility.

Causes of infertility in women.

In general, it has been noted that the primary cause of infertility in women has been problems in ovulating.  The source of causing problems in ovulation is polycystic ovarian syndrome or termed as PCOS and also primary ovarian insufficiency or also termed as POI. These two conditions causes a women the  inability to ovulate. Ovulation is the process and stage where a women releases her eggs to the ovaries. And with this absent, a women will not be able to conceive.

The less commonly known causes of infertility in women are presence of fibroids in the uterus, problems with the uterus and blocked fallopian tubes.

Causes of infertility in men.

As for men, the primary causes of infertility is when a men’s veins on the testicle(s) is too large and heats the testicles which affects the number of shape of the sperm. This problem is also known as varicocele.

Another cause is the movement and shape of the sperm. Sometimes if there are any damages that is caused to the reproductive system, it blocks the sperm movement.

In conclusion you should get an assessment from your doctor regarding your condition of infertility.

Ways to increase the chances of getting pregnant if you are not infertile.

So you have tried to get pregnant but failed and a check up with the doctor shows that you and your partner are not infertile.  This is good news as both of you can have a baby without requiring additional assistance in the form of medication or others. Hence  there are several things which you need to avoid so as to increase your chances of getting pregnant.

1)      Avoid being stressed. Stress has never done anyone good, period. And particularly in the instance of having a baby, it will not help if you are stressed about getting pregnant or not getting pregnant. Stress affects your chance of getting pregnant especially when you are stress on wanting to get pregnant.  You should where possible stay relaxed and happy and let nature takes its course.

2)      Avoid drinking excessive alcohol

3)      Avoid smoking

4)      Try to maintain a healthy diet

5)      Keep your fitness level up and consistent.

However, if you are diagnosed as infertile, please, please do not despair. Being infertile does not mean you can never have a baby. In this modern age high technology times, infertility can and has been overcomed. Couples with fertility issues can definitely pregnant after getting the appropriate treatments for their conditions.

Among the treatments for infertility are fertility treatments and IVF.  Couples going though these treatments have met success and have a chance to have a baby of their own and so can you! So if you or your partner is infertile, do not hesitate or be ashamed to admit it and then seek the appropriate medical advise  and proceed with whichever relevant treatments which will help you in having a baby of your own in no time!
